PRACTICE AREAS

Business Law

Business law governs business and commerce. Common business law issues include corporate contracts, employment-related issues, and claims stemming from the manufacture, distribution, and sale of goods.

Family Law

Family law deals with family-related issues and domestic relations, including pre-nuptual agreements and other pre-marital matters; issues arising during a marriage, such as adoption, child abuse, and domestic violence; and issues at the end of a marriage, including divorce, property settlements, alimony, child custody, and child support.

Wills, Trusts, and Estates

The law of wills, trusts, and estates controls the management of personal affairs and the disposition of property, and includes lifetime arrangements such as living wills and durable powers of attorney.

Criminal Law/Defense

Criminal law refers generally to the rules that can subject a person to criminal punishment, such as imprisonment or fines. Criminal law typically is enforced by the government rather than a private party.

Property Law

Property law governs real (land) and personal property. Common areas in which legal issues arise include estates in land, the conveyances of land, and disagreements over various nonpossessory interests in land, such as easements.

Personal Injury

A personal injury occurs when a person has suffered some form of injury, either physical or psychological, as the result of an accident. Personal injury claims may stem, for example, from automobile accidents, “slip and fall” cases, assault claims, and accidents in the office or at home.
